NZRC exists to make the missing step visible: taking a question, finding evidence, making a defensible claim, and communicating it with enough precision that another person can follow your thinking.

NZRC is not a test of who can sound the most advanced. It is a test of whether a reader can trust the path from question to conclusion.
Structure
Does the paper guide a reader with a clear purpose, sequence, and conclusion?
Argument
Does each claim follow from the evidence, with complexity rather than certainty for its own sake?
Evidence
Are sources relevant, credible, used accurately, and acknowledged properly?
Clarity
Can a thoughtful reader understand the paper without guessing what the writer means?

the first draft?
Is NZRC a science fair?
No. NZRC is built around research writing. The output is a paper, and the judging focuses on structure, argument, evidence, and clarity rather than a physical experiment or display.
Who is it for?
NZRC is intended for students in New Zealand who want to develop research and academic writing skills. The current prompt and entry requirements determine the exact scope for each term.
How are papers judged?
Every paper is read against a consistent rubric. The four lenses are structure, argument, evidence, and clarity. Competition-specific details are published with each prompt.
Does entering guarantee publication?
No. Strong papers may be considered for a mentored revision pathway, but publication is never guaranteed. The goal is to make the route toward stronger research visible and rigorous.
