New Zealand Research Challenge
From curiosity to citation.
From curiosity to citation.
New Zealand has no shortage of curious, driven, and scientifically minded students — but the path from a great idea to a published research paper has never been clearly laid out. Science fairs celebrate the experiment, but rarely the writing. Classrooms teach the method, but not the manuscript. NZRC exists to close that gap.
What we are:
A termly academic writing competition for NZ students
A structured pathway from school science to journal-standard research
A community of students who want to go further than the classroom
Every term, we release a research prompt. You investigate, you write, you submit. A panel of judges evaluates your paper on the same criteria a journal editor would — structure, argument, evidence, and clarity. The top submissions earn badges, recognition, and rankings. And the very best don't just win a competition — they get nominated for real publication in a real scientific journal, with mentoring from researchers who know exactly what it takes to get there.
Whether you're submitting your first paper or chasing your fifth, NZRC is where New Zealand's next generation of researchers begin.
